The sailfish is found in the temperate and tropical waters of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. It prefers the epipelagic zones, spending most of its adult life between the surface layer and the thermocline. Although it is mainly found near the surface, it occasionally dives into deeper waters, where temperatures can drop to 8°C, though it prefers temperatures between 25°C and 30°C. Throughout the year, it migrates to higher latitudes in summer and returns towards the equator in autumn.
