The roosterfish (Nematistius pectoralis) is a marine species that inhabits the warm waters of the Eastern Pacific Ocean, ranging from Baja California to Peru, including the Galápagos Islands. This fish prefers coastal areas with sandy bottoms, often approaching beaches and estuaries. Juveniles can be found in very shallow waters, such as tide pools, while adults frequent slightly deeper waters but always close to the shore. Although primarily a coastal species, it can occasionally be spotted in open waters.
