Habitat

The Rainbow Bass, also known as Guapote, is a predatory cichlid species native to Central America. This fish is particularly common in countries like Costa Rica and Nicaragua, where it inhabits lakes, rivers, and freshwater lagoons. One of the most renowned habitats for the Rainbow Bass is Lake Arenal in Costa Rica, an artificial lake created in 1979, which provides an ideal environment thanks to its numerous islands, submerged trees, and grassy shores that offer perfect hiding spots for these predators. Besides Lake Arenal, the Rainbow Bass is also found in lagoons and rivers along the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, including the Tortuguero Conservation Area, characterized by wild and pristine environments. Another significant area is the Caño Negro Natural Reserve, located near the Nicaraguan border, where the Rainbow Bass thrives in lagoons and rivers rich in flora and fauna.
