The Nannygai, scientifically known as Lutjanus erythropterus, is a species of fish belonging to the Lutjanidae family. This fish is distributed in the tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific, ranging from the Gulf of Oman to the Admiralty Islands in Papua New Guinea, south to northern Australia, and north to southern Japan.

Adult Nannygai inhabit both coastal and offshore coral reefs. They tend to associate with habitats dominated by sponges and gorgonians on the North West Shelf. They are found on banks, debris, corals, large epibenthos, hard sandy-mud substrates, and offshore coral reefs. Young fish, once they reach about 2.5 cm in length, settle in shallow waters with muddy substrates, sometimes entering estuaries.
