The Queen Snapper, scientifically known as Etelis oculatus, is a species of fish belonging to the Lutjanidae family. This fish is found in the waters of the western Atlantic, ranging from North Carolina to Brazil, including the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. It is particularly abundant in the Bahamas and the Antilles.

The Queen Snapper is a bathydemersal species that inhabits depths between 100 and 400 meters. Adults prefer rocky bottoms, where they primarily feed on smaller fish and squid. Younger individuals, on the other hand, are often found in intermediate waters and feed on crustaceans. This fish has also been observed near oceanic islands, suggesting a certain preference for such habitats.
